Early in the spring of 1909, a group of local farmers and merchants organized a movement to establish a bank in the town then known as Stanleyton. Their efforts paid off and on December 3, 1909, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Inc. of Stanleyton opened for business with ten thousand dollars in capital stock.

Our independent, locally owned bank, has a long and proud history. Throughout the years, we have been blessed with dedicated Directors, hard working employees, and a loyal group of citizens that have utilized our services for over 90 years.

On February 28, 1984, Page Bankshares, Inc., the holding company for then Farmers & Merchants National Bank of Stanley, was formed. In November of 1993, we changed our charter to a state bank, and we became Farmers & Merchants Bank of Stanley. Most recently, on April 1, 1999 the name of the bank changed to Pioneer Bank and the holding company became Pioneer Bankshares, Inc.

Pioneer Bank offers a broad range of banking activities and products. Pioneer Banks loan portfolio gives major emphasis to real estate, consumer, small businesses, commercial and farming interests. Local schools, volunteer service organizations, and community groups continue to receive financial support from the bank.
