AmFirst Bank, based in McCook, Nebraska had its beginning in 1979 with the purchase of First National Bank of Hayes Center. In 1987, American State Bank in McCook was purchased and in 1988, the former Frenchman Valley Bank in Palisade was purchased and reopened as First National Bank of Hayes Center, Palisade Branch. These three banks were merged in 1989 to become AmFirst Bank. AmFirst purchased State Bank in Benkelman in 1992. In September 2006, State Bank officially merged with AmFirst and now carries the AmFirst Bank name as well.
