American Savings Bank is an independent, locally managed bank. American Savings Bank was organized January 21, 1899 under the original name of The German Savings Bank. On January 24, 1899, the new bank began business in a room in the Tripoli Mercantile block.

In August of 1965, American Savings Bank began business in the new building. In 1983, remodeling needed to be done to the building as business was growing rapidly, more room was needed for office space and lobby space was presenting a problem. In the remodeling project, 1600 square feet was added including more working area, storage space and also a drive-up window along with a night deposit drop.

In June of 1996, a new ATM terminal was installed in the vestibule of the bank for the convenience of customers and others. In addition, the second drive-up lane was added.

Total assets of American Savings Bank as of December 31, 2012 are $54,381,268 and capital is $9,254,947.
